Heartland Alliance International (HAI) is a service-based human rights organization committed to protecting and promoting the rights of extremely vulnerable populations through an inclusive approach to comprehensive global health and social and economic justice. Since 2004, HAI has been working in federal Iraq and the Iraqi Kurdistan Region (IKR), with its headquarters in Sulamaniyah, Kurdistan, Iraq.
HAI’s Iraq work includes three pillars: access to justice, access to mental health services, and advocacy. All HAI programs apply an integrated and inclusive approach to protecting and promoting the rights of extremely vulnerable populations that are frequently excluded or forgotten by more traditional development programming. HAI strategic approach includes working within the system to change the system, collaborating with government ministries, UN agencies, international and local NGOs, and other key actors to bring about sustainable change to advance human rights in the IKR.
