Job Summary

The Sewing Teacher is responsible for teaching and administering basic sewing lessons at the Yazidi Empowerment Project (YEP) Community Center. Samaritan’s Purse is looking for committed, hardworking applicants with a passion to serve people with dignity.


Job Duties:

  • Provide instruction and demonstration of machine use and maintenance, basic stitching, means of mending damaged clothing and other alterations, and use of basic patterns for bags, cushion covers, and clothing items.
  • Prepare course material and lessons plans to fit the interests and abilities of the participants.
  • Communicate information with enthusiasm, clarity, and patience.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate use of all equipment.
  • Communicate all materials and supplies needed to the Program Manager and assist with purchases according to SPI Finance and Procurement Policies.
  • Keep record of student attendance and follow up on absences within 48 hours.
  • Collaborate with project team to advertise and recruit participants from surrounding community.
  • Submit timely and accurate activity reports to the Program Manager.
  • Conduct surveys to capture participant feedback and inform the types of skills and designs taught in the class.
  • Collaborate with Marketing Officer to identify markets for clothing items and other handicrafts.
  • Report concerns regarding a beneficiary or their family to the Program Manager in a timely manner.
  • Attend and contribute to regular team meetings.
  • Uphold the SP Code of Conduct at all times.

Education / Experience Needed

  • At least 5 years of experience sewing personally or commercially.



  • Fluency in Kurdish required.

Proficiency in English and/or Arabic is a plus
